NFL Week 7 Recap

Peyton Manning loses in his return to Indianapolis, and the Jets get a win in controversial fashion. Let's recap Week 7!

Seattle Seahawks 34 Arizona Cardinals 22

It seemed to be more Seahawks' fans at this game than Cardinals' fans, which is never a good thing for the home team. The Cardinals kept it close in the first half despite being dominated by the Seahawks. However, they couldn't keep it that way in the second half. With their next two games against the Rams and the Buccaneers, the Seahawks can keep things rolling before they come into the Georgia Dome for a rematch of the NFC Divisional Round game, which they narrowly lost.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 23 Atlanta Falcons 31

This wasn't a resounding win for the Falcons, so there should still be some concern. Mike Glennon was decent, and Matt Ryan did what he could with the weapons he has. For the Buccaneers, they are still searching for their first win. Greg Schiano has received a lot of criticism, and it doesn't seem as if the players like him either. It's a sure bet he's gone after the season.

St. Louis Rams 15 Carolina Panthers 30

Steve Smith went pouting again. He probably had reason to be upset with Janoris Jenkins if Jenkins was talking about Smith's wife. However, Smith has anger management issues that have reared its ugly head in the past. He needs to tone it down, for the better of his team. He could've cost the Panthers with a stupid penalty if the referees decided they wanted to send a message.

Lions' WR Calvin Johnson catches a touchdown pass over
three defenders.
Cincinnati Bengals 27 Detroit Lions 24

If the Lions want to get back to the playoffs, they need to win games like this. This loss is disappointing because Andy Dalton hadn't necessarily set the world on fire coming into this game. However, three touchdown passes and over 300 yards passing set the tone for a good offensive day. Two of the league's top receivers had highlight plays in this one. It was a fun one to watch.

San Diego Chargers 24 Jacksonville Jaguars 6

The Jaguars have the 49ers in London next week, so you can mark that as a loss. You can probably mark a loss on the road to the Titans after their bye week. However, they do have the Cardinals, Texans, and Browns in the next three, which is followed by another game to the Texans. With those three teams struggling, there's probably an opportunity for the Jaguars to get their first win.

Bills' DE Mario Williams brings down Dolphins'
QB Ryan Tannehill.
Buffalo Bills 23 Miami Dolphins 21

After starting the season 3-0, the Dolphins have lost three straight, including two of the three at home. They were starting to get people to believe they were an improved football team. I think we can now go back to believing they're just a 7-9 football team. The Bills' win in Miami without E.J. Manuel is kind of impressive. Maybe Thad Lewis can be a starter in this league also.

Jets' QB Geno Smith celebrates a rushing touchdown.
New England Patritos 27 New York Jets 30 OT

We all know the referees got the call right with the unsportsmanlike conduct penalty that gave the Jets a closer field goal and a win. Both quarterbacks threw a pick-six, but Brady and the Patriots continue to struggle offensively. This is easily the most frustrating season of his career. If the Jets had Mark Sanchez, they easily would lose this game. Geno Smith is learning from every game he plays.

Dallas Cowboys 17 Philadelphia Eagles 3

This game was surprisingly devoid of offense, and the Eagles just can't seem to win a home game. The last time they won at Lincoln Financial Field, it was Week 4 of last season against the Giants. They've played nine games since, and have lost all of them. The good news is, they get those same Giants at home next week. I guess they can have a nine-game home losing streak wrapped up by the Giants.

Bears' QB Jay Cutler suffers a groin injury, which will probably
keep him out for four weeks.
Chicago Bears 41 Washington Redskins 45

Jay Cutler is out for a significant amount of time, so things are not good for the Bears. Back in the 2011 season, Cutler had the Bears sitting pretty in November, but a season-ending thumb injury proved costly, as the Bears flamed out in December and failed to make the playoffs. Cutler isn't an elite quarterback. Heck, he's not even that good, but he is better than any other option on the team. This could hurt them like it hurt them back in that 2011 season.

San Francisco 49ers 31 Tennessee Titans 17

The 49ers played well offensively and defensively, but they usually do so. I thought having Jake Locker back would make the Titans much better, but it didn't do anything for them at all. If the Titans want to make that playoff push as well, they need statement wins. This was an opportunity that's now passed, so they must focus on getting wins.

Cleveland Browns 13 Green Bay Packers 31

Those Packers' uniforms aren't as bad as some people make it out to be. With that being said, the Browns surprisingly played a little close, but Aaron Rodgers was able to create the separation needed for an easy win. Jermichael Finley is also up and walking, as reports had it that he was in the intensive care unit yesterday. Good news for him and the Packers.

Steelers' K Shaun Suisham celebrates after kicking the
game-winning field goal.
Baltimore Ravens 16 Pittsburgh Steelers 19

Terrell Suggs said the team is in a state of emergency now, but people aren't looking much further than the money Joe Flacco has received when blaming the poor start for the Ravens. They haven't even looked that impressive in their wins, and have looked anemic offensively. Their upcoming bye week is one that is needed for them to regroup.

Texans' QB Case Keenum makes his first career start in the loss.
Houston Texans 16 Kansas City Chiefs 17

The Chiefs are now the only undefeated team in the league, and more surprising, now have a lead over the Broncos in the AFC West. Again, it wasn't pretty, but this defense has played very well and Alex Smith has limited the turnovers. Last year, they were riddled by turnovers from Brady Quinn and Matt Cassel. A sturdy, turnover-free quarterback is in place, and it has worked like magic for the Chiefs.

Colts' QB Andrew Luck and Broncos' QB Peyton Manning shake
hands after the game.
Denver Broncos 33 Indianapolis Colts 39

So many headlines going into this game, and now there are headlines coming out of this game. The Colts played well, especially in that third quarter when they were able to limit the Broncos. A week after scoring a season-low 35 points against the Jaguars, they score a season-low 33 in this loss. Not bad! The torn ACL for Reggie Wayne is one that hurts so much because he's a veteran leader on that team. Furthermore, he's not just all talk. Andrew Luck has relied on Wayne so much since he took over as quarterback. It'll be interesting to see how Luck can play without him.

Minnesota Vikings 7 New York Giants 23

Easily the worst Monday Night Football game this season, the Giants didn't give any reason to suggest they can turn the corner. It's too late to do so now, but as Steve Young said, the Giants should make a respectable season out of this. It was obvious the Giants would win when the Vikings decided to start Josh Freeman. Sure, Freeman is new to the team, playbook and players. However, is it Christian Ponder's fault the Vikings scored 30 points and lost to the Bears? They also scored 27 against the Browns only to lose. Ponder may not be good, but I know for sure he's better than Josh Freeman. No reason to make that switch at all.
