2013 NFL Week 5 Preview

The Lions look to get their first win in Lambeau Field in over 20 years, and the Broncos, Texans and Patriots are all on the road as we preview Week 5!

Buffalo Bills vs. Cleveland Browns
Thursday October 3, 2013 8:25pm
NFL Network -- Brad Nessler, Mike Mayock

Both teams are coming into this game with 2-2 records, which is a little surprising. The Browns won their last two games despite trading their best offensive player and going with the third-string quarterback. Browns should make it three straight at home.

Patriots' Tom Brady looks to lead team to victory in Cincinnati.
New England Patriots vs. Cincinnati Bengals
Sunday October 6, 2013 1pm
CBS -- Greg Gumbel, Dan Dierdorf

The Bengals are coming off of a bad loss to the state and division rival Browns, but they did get a big home win against the Packers the week before that. Maybe they can get another big home win. It won't come easy as Tom Brady is starting to click with his young wide receivers. By the way, the Patriots are undefeated as well. They should win this.

Detroit Lions vs. Green Bay Packers
Sunday October 6, 2013 1pm
FOX -- Kenny Albert, Daryl Johnston, Tony Siragusa

Reggie Bush has been on the biggest offseason acquisitions, if not the biggest. It is paying off for the Lions as he is a threat in the run and passing game. The Lions have lost their last 22 games at Lambeau Field, but like in 2011, the Lions have a real shot at beating the Packers. The Lions are also ahead of the Packers in the division, so the Packers will be motivated to get this one even though it's early in the season.

Colts' Andrew Luck faces off against former college teammates
in Seahawks' Doug Baldwin and Richard Sherman.
Seattle Seahawks vs. Indianapolis Colts
Sunday October 6, 2013 1pm
FOX -- Kevin Burkhardt, John Lynch

Seahawks' receiver Doug Baldwin had a lot of praise for this quarterback, glowing over the guy's ability to lead the team despite having a limited amount of talent. Baldwin said this guy could be the best ever to play in the league when it's all said and done. Baldwin was not talking about his quarterback Russell Wilson. Baldwin was talking about his college quarterback, Andrew Luck. I wonder how Wilson feels about that.

Baltimore Ravens vs. Miami Dolphins
Sunday October 6, 2013 1pm
CBS -- Marv Albert, Rich Gannon

Joe Flacco was intercepted five times last week in Buffalo, and things will not get easier in Miami. With Brent Grimes playing the outside, the Dolphins are a solid defense against the pass. Factor in the play of the entire defense, and the Dolphins should be able to win this game. The offense for the Ravens simply hasn't done much to brag about so far.

New Orleans Saints vs. Chicago Bears
Sunday October 6, 2013 1pm
FOX -- Joe Buck, Troy Aikman

The Bears are 3-1, but I'm not quite convinced they're good yet because of Jay Cutler. Simply put, I've never trusted Cutler, but the Bears can win this game against the high-powered Saints. Drew Brees will have to throw the ball as usual, and Charles Tillman and Tim Jennings will have plenty of opportunities to intercept passes and return them for touchdowns. I think it'll happen one time in this game.

Philadelphia Eagles vs. New York Giants
Sunday October 6, 2013 1pm
FOX -- Thom Brennaman, Brian Billick

Both of these teams need a win in the worse way. Simply put, they were both horrible last week in blowout losses. The Giants need it more, however. There's a sense the Giants still have hope because of the lackluster play from the other teams in the division. A home win against a division rival could set the table for a string of wins if the Giants use their talents correctly. I think the Giants get the monkey off their back in this one.

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Tennessee Titans
Sunday October 6, 2013 1pm
CBS -- Kevin Harlan, Solomon Wilcots

This game probably wouldn't have been interesting at the start of the season, but it's an intriguing game now. The Chiefs come in undefeated, while the Titans could've been undefeated had they held on to a fourth-quarter lead against the Texans in Week 2. Both defenses have played well, but the difference in this game will be the absence of Jake Locker. Ryan Fitzpatrick will assume the starter's duties and he just isn't good.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. St. Louis Rams
Sunday October 6, 2013 1pm
CBS -- Bill Macatee, Steve Tasker

Easily the worst game of Week 5, I feel sorry for Bill Macatee and Steve Tasker. However, they're used to calling the worse games for CBS, so they'll just have to witness the events that take place on the field. The disappointing part for the Rams is they haven't used rookie receiver Tavon Austin to the best of his abilities, and it's holding the offense back. This is the perfect game for Sam Bradford to build chemistry with Austin. It sucks the Jaguars could be used for practice.

Carolina Panthers vs. Arizona Cardinals
Sunday October 6, 2013 4:05pm
FOX -- Chris Myers, Tim Ryan

This is a game between two quarterbacks who seem to be overhyped. Cam Newton is widely regarded as one of the best talents in the game, but hasn't led the Panthers anywhere so far in his career. His accuracy is an issue, and it holds the offense back many times. Carson Palmer has lived off of the reputation of his play before the knee injury he suffered in the playoffs back in January 2006. Simply put, he hasn't been good since then, and the Raiders traded away a number of draft picks to acquire him back in 2011. But Palmer is the better quarterback of the two.

Broncos' Peyton Manning will try to keep his foot on the gas pedal.
Denver Broncos vs. Dallas Cowboys
Sunday October 6, 2013 4:25pm
CBS -- Jim Nantz, Phil Simms

The Broncos have just been torching teams so far, scoring 49 in a win against the Ravens, 41 against the Giants, and 52 against the Eagles. The Cowboys at home have a chance to win this game, but I believe that offense for the Broncos will continue to roll. The last time the Broncos even lost a regular season game was this time last season. They've been on a roll for a while now.

49ers' Frank Gore hopes the coaches run the ball a lot once again.
Houston Texans vs. San Francisco 49ers
Sunday October 6, 2013 8:30pm
NBC -- Al Michaels, Cris Collinsworth

J.J. Watt's postgame reaction to the Texans loss last week to the Seahawks was comical. We've grown accustomed to seeing Watt very engaging and happy. Losses, especially the one the Texans suffered, should make him feel the way he did. It's not getting easier for Matt Schaub either. The Texans should be very concerned with wasting away their most talented team with a quarterback that isn't talented.

San Diego Chargers vs. Oakland Raiders
Sunday October 6, 2013 11:30pm
NFL Network -- Ian Eagle, Dan Fouts

These two teams spoke of switching stadiums since they are scheduled to play in San Diego in December. I'm not sure why that didn't go through, but to accomodate Game 2 of the ALDS between the Detroit Tigers and Oakland Athletics on Saturday, the NFL has moved this game to 11:30pm. Luckily, this game isn't one people will care much to see. If Terrelle Pryor plays, this game could be a good one. If not, the Chargers should win easily. I'll make my prediction off of Pryor playing.

New York Jets vs. Atlanta Falcons
Monday October 7, 2013 8:40pm
ESPN -- Mike Tirico, Jon Gruden

The Jets are 2-2, which is surprising to some people. It really shouldn't surprise people, however, because those wins came at home against the Buccaneers and Bills. This game is a much tougher test, and it doesn't make it easy when the Falcons are 1-3 and desperate for a win. Much has been said about the mistakes Geno Smith has made. I think it's being made into a bigger deal than it really should be. Smith has made far better decisions than Mark Sanchez, and that's what matters.
