2013 NFL Week 4 Recap

The Giants and Steelers remain shockingly winless, and the Broncos continue to slaughter the competition. Here's a recap of Week 4!

San Francisco 49ers 35 St. Louis Rams 11

Early in the first half, it was looking as if the 49ers were still in their funk offensively. They were unable to move against the Rams' defense, but they were able to get it going in the second quarter and run away with the game in the second half. It's a nice win for the 49ers because they have several games coming up in the next month that they should win. They are looking to keep pace with the undefeated Seahawks. They must take care of business from here on out.

Ravens' QB Joe Flacco
Baltimore Ravens 20 Buffalo Bills 23

This game was probably the first time I have seen the Ravens trust the right arm of Joe Flacco so much in a long time. They did trust his right arm in the postseason and he led them to a Super Bowl victory, but they generally rely on the run more than they do with the pass. Relying on Flacco's right arm did not work out against the Bills, as he threw five interceptions as the Bills escaped with a victory. There shouldn't be any panic. This is only one game.

Cincinnati Bengals 6 Cleveland Browns 17

When the Browns got rid of Trent Richardson in a surprising mid-season trade, it was met with a lot of skepticism. Former executive Mike Holmgren criticized the deal as well, drawing the ire of former Browns' great Jim Brown. With all of this being said, the Browns are now 2-0 since the trade. More importantly, the Browns are 2-0 since making Brian Hoyer the quarterback in place of injured quarterback Brandon Weeden. The decision to make Hoyer the quarterback was met with a lot of skepticism as well, since Jason Campbell was the primary backup to Weeden. I guess the Browns are pushing all of the right buttons so far.

Lions' RB Reggie Bush
Chicago Bears 32 Detroit Lions 40

Even though the Bears came in at 3-0 and the Lions came in at 2-1, I knew the Lions were the better team, and they displayed that in a second quarter onslaught. Reggie Bush is easily becoming the league's best free agent signing, as he is able to make plays in space and make life easier for Matthew Stafford. The Lions' defense also picked Jay Cutler three times. Now the Lions have the Packers in Lambeau Field next week. Good luck.

Texans' TE Owen Daniels and Seahawks' CB Richard Sherman
Seattle Seahawks 23 Houston Texans 20 OT

The Seahawks needed to make a statement and go on the road against a quality team and get a victory. They did that but I'm not entirely sure they proved much to me. Matt Schaub's boneheaded off-balance throw on third down with a seven-point lead is as bad as it gets. However, in overtime, neither team was making way until a personal foul penalty on Kareem Jackson that was questionable at best. However, maybe a play or two later, cameras clearly caught Marshawn Lynch taunting a defender on the ground, yet there was no unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. The Texans kind of got a raw deal.

Indianapolis Colts 37 Jacksonville Jaguars 3

It was mentioned in the media that head coach Chuck Pagano put mouse traps in the lockers of his players, simply to remind them this was a trap game they could lose. It seems the players got the message, trouncing the pathetic Jaguars. I'm not sure if the Jaguars will get a win anytime soon and it sucks for Jaguars' fans.

New York Giants 7 Kansas City Chiefs 31

Both defenses in this game were doing an excellent job until Dexter McCluster's punt return for a touchdown. At that point in the third quarter, the Chiefs took a 17-7 lead and the Chiefs never looked back, suffocating the Giants' offense while adding to their point total. At some point, Kevin Gilbride has to be blamed for the offensive shortcomings right?

Vikings' RB Adrian Peterson
Pittsburgh Steelers 27 Minnesota Vikings 34

Both teams came in at 0-3, so I predicted the team with the better quarterback to win this game. That was Ben Roethlisberger and I was wrong on my assessment. Simply put, the Steelers have been bad, and it is evident that change is needed sooner than later. No one really knows what changes need to be made, however. That is a problem.

Buccaneers' QB Mike Glennon
Arizona Cardinals 13 Tampa Bay Buccaneers 10

The Buccaneers continue to play well defensively, and they continue to lose because of their offense. Mike Glennon, rookie third round pick out of NC State, got the start while Josh Freeman was inactive. Glennon did better than Freeman has done all year, but the offense was still inept. The Buccaneers must be patient with Glennon if they plan on seeing if he is the franchise guy.

New York Jets 13 Tennessee Titans 38

The Titans have impressed so far, and Jake Locker was very impressive before he went out with a hip injury that looks very serious. I've seen and heard rumblings that the hits from Muhammad Wilkerson and Quentin Coples that caused the injury were dirty. If those were dirty hits, the league has gotten very soft.

Washington Redskins 24 Oakland Raiders 14

Raiders' head coach Dennis Allen made it clear he doesn't want Matt Flynn to start at all. Allen made it clear that Flynn was the reason the Raiders lost the game after jumping out to a 14-point lead early. After that, they didn't score again while the Redskins scored 24 unanswered for the victory. Look to see if Terrelle Pryor has any lingering issues with his concussion and if the Raiders will rush him back. It can get bigger than the game itself.

Dallas Cowboys 21 San Diego Chargers 30

Many people keep picking the Cowboys to win these games, but there comes a point in time where people have to realize just how talented the Cowboys are. They're a mediocre team at best, and playing on the road against another mediocre team isn't an automatic win for the Cowboys. The Chargers went down 11, but the Cowboys didn't score again while the Chargers scored 20 unanswered for the win.

Philadelphia Eagles 20 Denver Broncos 52

What the Broncos have done in the month of September is incredible. Their offense has been on a tear since the second half of the first game against the defending champion Ravens. Peyton Manning already has 16 touchdown passes, and has not been picked off yet. At four touchdowns a game, we're looking at 64 touchdown passes for the season. I doubt he'll get that, but anything is possible.

Patriots' QB Tom Brady and WR Kenbrell Thompkins
New England Patriots 30 Atlanta Falcons 23

This game has been indicative of what has transpired all year between the AFC and the NFC. Coming into this season, it was thought there wasn't much competition in the AFC but the NFC was stacked with Super Bowl contenders. However, that has not proven to be the case so far this season as the AFC has shown to have legit championship contenders. The NFC's contenders have struggled out of the gate, and the Falcons were expected to be one of them. At 1-3, they need to figure out how to right the ship quickly. The Saints are now 4-0 and three games ahead of them.

Miami Dolphins 17 New Orleans Saints 38

If the Dolphins would've won this game, I would've been fully sold. Not surprising that the Saints were able to dominate at home. They have dominated plenty of teams in the Superdome over the years. It's simply a hard place to play.
