Week 4 Sunday Recap

K Matt Bryant makes the game-winning field goal for the
Falcons win.
Carolina Panthers 28 Atlanta Falcons 30

QB Cam Newton has an opportunity to get a first down and he fumbles the football, in which the ensuing recovery resulted in a failed third down conversion. A beautiful punt left the Falcons starting a potential game-winning drive at their own 1-yard line. This game must be over because there's no way the Falcons can get into field goal range backed up that far. S Haruki Nakamura badly misplayed a deep ball earlier in the game that resulted in a touchdown for WR Roddy White. Deja vu would occur as Nakamura misplayed a deep ball again, resulting in a long completion for White en route to a game-winning field goal for K Matt Bryant.

New England Patriots 52 Buffalo Bills 28

So the Bills were up 14-7 at halftime and the game was tied at 21 at the end of the third quarter and still lost big? After winning two straight following a opening game disaster in MetLife Stadium, Bills fans were impressed with what they saw through the first three quarters. Two touchdown passes from QB Tom Brady and a touchdown run each from RB Stevan Ridley and RB Brandon Bolden wrapped up a fourth quarter in which the Patriots outscored the Bills 31-7. This leaves Bills fans feeling low like they did Week 1.

Minnesota Vikings 20 Detroit Lions 13

The Lions and the Green Bay Packers were the top two teams in the NFC North last season. Some expected it to be that way this season as well. Coming into this game, both teams were the bottom two teams in the division, and the Lions definitely could've used a home win in the division going into the bye week. A second consecutive game with awful special teams play leaves the Lions at 1-3, asking themselves a lot of questions going into their bye week.

Tennessee Titans 14 Houston Texans 38

The Texans continue to roll over opponents, winning this one easily and knocking out Titans QB Jake Locker in the process. Texans QB Matt Schaub threw two touchdown passes, while the Texans defense returned two QB Matt Hasselbeck interceptions for touchdowns. I have doubted the Texans coming into the season but they are proving the doubters wrong. Next up is a Monday night matchup against the New York Jets. They can be 5-0 after that.

San Diego Chargers 37 Kansas City Chiefs 20

The Chargers jumped out to a 27-6 halftime lead at Arrowhead Stadium, thanks to five turnovers from the home team. Another turnover in the second half made it six total for the Chiefs, as they failed to capitalize on the momentum they gained after beating the New Orleans Saints in the Superdome last week. The Chargers, embarrassed on their home field last week by the Falcons, came out sharp, ready to create turnovers and score points. The Chargers started 4-1 last season before completely falling off, so it remains to be seen what the Chargers will do going forward. Nice to have a jumpstart on the division though.

San Francisco 49ers 34 New York Jets 0

I think Jets fans are still trying to figure out exactly what happened yesterday at MetLife stadium. I am not sure if this game forces head coach Rex Ryan to switch to QB Tim Tebow, but this was an awful performance on both sides of the ball. The Jets defense weren't all too bad in the first half, as it seemed to be nip and tuck. However, they were getting gashed by RB Frank Gore and RB Kendall Hunter all game, and the Jets offense couldn't stay on the field long enough to help out their defense. With the Texans mighty defense coming to town next week, this could be a disastrous two game home stretch the Jets will ever see.

Seattle Seahawks 13 St. Louis Rams 19

No replacement referees in this one, and I guess that was bad for the Seahawks. Three interceptions for QB Russell Wilson, in addition to a touchdown throw for the Rams on a fake field goal turned out to be the game. It also helps when you have a kicker who makes a 58-yard field goal and a 60-yard field goal in the same game. K Lawrence Tynes of the New York Giants came way short on a 54-yard field goal.

Miami Dolphins 21 Arizona Cardinals 24 Overtime

The Cardinals went into Gillette Stadium and ruined the defending AFC champion New England Patriots' home opener. Then the Cardinals followed that up by handing a thorough beating to the Philadelphia Eagles. So this game should be easy right? Dolphins' QB Ryan Tannehill made sure it didn't come that easy. He threw for over 400 yards and WR Brian Hartline had 12 catches for over 250 yards. However, it was the throw in overtime that cost the Dolphins the win. The Cardinals, at 4-0, have definitely shocked me and a lot more fans and analysts.

Oakland Raiders 6 Denver Broncos 37

After a home loss to the Texans dropped them to 1-2, the Broncos needed a game where they could bounce back and gain momentum. They saw the Raiders on their schedule and immediately thought -- BINGO!! QB Peyton Manning got his groove back, completing 30 of 38 passes for 338 yards and three touchdowns. Raiders QB Carson Palmer continues to show his naysayers why the trade to acquire him was the dumbest move in recent memory.

Cincinnati Bengals 27 Jacksonville Jaguars 10

In a rather uneventful game in which many probably didn't know was on the schedule, the Bengals took care of the Jaguars in a game where WR A.J. Green caught six passes for over 100 yards. A noteworthy occurrence in this game is the two fumbles from RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis, who did not fumble at all in his NFL career coming into this season. He had his first fumble last week, and followed that up with two yesterday. Is this a sign of bad things to come?

WR James Jones scores one of his two touchdowns in the
Packers victory.
New Orleans Saints 27 Green Bay Packers 28

The referees got a standing ovation after entering Lambeau Field. Following the Monday night debacle in Seattle, the Packers and their fans just knew they wouldn't have to worry about the referees. They were wrong. A couple of obvious missed calls, including a fumble from RB Darren Sproles in which he was ruled down by contact, could've cost the Packers the game. In the first half, it was obvious TE Jimmy Graham dropped a first down reception. The Packers challenged and just knew they were going to get it reversed. They were wrong again. Do the referees just dislike the Packers?

K Billy Cundiff saves the game and most likely his job with
his game-winning kick.
Washington Redskins 24 Tampa Bay Buccaneers 22

K Billy Cundiff was on the sidelines just thinking of where he was going to go next after being cut by the Redskins when he got one final chance to redeem himself. Having missed three field goals earlier in the game, the Redskins marched into field goal position rather easily after the Buccaneers came back to take the lead. Cundiff barely made the game-winning field goal, and it appeared that he didn't even look at the flight of the ball after kicking it, instead looking at the ground. Cundiff needs to do much better if he wants to stick around.

New York Giants 17 Philadelphia Eagles 19

I do not know what was worse. Maybe it was WR Ramses Barden's decision to mug CB Nnamdi Asomugha up the sideline on a deep pass. Or maybe it was the decision of the coaching staff or QB Eli Manning to throw down the field when they were in manageable field goal position. The Giants let a good opportunity slip away as K Lawrence Tynes came up short on a 54-yard field goal attempt. The Giants, like they do best, have put themselves in a tough position early in the season at 2-2, when they easily could've been 4-0.
