NFL Week 17 Preview

The return of Packers' QB Aaron Rodgers puts the Packers in the
driver's seat in a winner-take-all against the Bears.
Week 17 will be the one of the craziest final weeks in recent memory as the Dolphins, Ravens, Steelers and Chargers all play for the final AFC playoff spot. Let's preview Week 17!

Cleveland Browns vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
Sunday December 29, 2013 1pm
CBS -- Bill Macatee, Steve Tasker

The Steelers should win this game because they have a lot to play for. A win is the very least they can get. They'll also need losses from the Dolphins, Chargers and Ravens to get in. It is very possible the Chargers and Ravens lose, as they have to face good teams that are already in the playoffs. However, the Dolphins have a home tilt against the Jets. It's possible the Jets could beat them. The Dolphins aren't all that good either. The Steelers will win this one and pray.

Washington Redskins vs. New York Giants
Sunday December 29, 2013 1pm
FOX -- Dick Stockton, Ronde Barber

Both teams do not have anything to play for, but the Giants would like to get this win and end their season at 7-9. It is pretty remarkable the Giants have an opportunity to get to 7-9 after starting the season 0-6. Kirk Cousins would like to come to the Meadowlands and get a victory as well, probably trying to prove to coaches he should be the starter over Robert Griffin III. Cousins has always denied trying to be the starter, but who doesn't want to start?

Baltimore Ravens vs. Cincinnati Bengals
Sunday December 29, 2013 1pm
CBS -- Jim Nantz, Phil Simms

Unless the Steelers, Dolphins and Chargers all lose, the Ravens will need to win and get a little bit of help to make the playoffs. Winning in Cincinnati will be very difficult, especially since the Bengals are still playing for a first-round bye. A win and a Patriots' loss would give the Bengals a first-round bye. No one expects the Patriots to lose at home to the Bills. However, the Bengals will take care of their job and hope the Bills get a win.

Houston Texans vs. Tennessee Titans
Sunday December 29, 2013 1pm
CBS -- Andrew Catalon, Adam Archuleta

Neither of these teams have anything to play for, but Mike Munchak would like a win against a lowly Texans team. His job is already not certain beyond this year, so if he were to lose to the Texans at home, it could very well cost him his job. The Texans are going to Case Keenum for the season finale, but they'll probably be looking for a quarterback in the upcoming draft. If Johnny Manziel decides to leave school, he might be staying in the state of Texas.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Indianapolis Colts
Sunday December 29, 2013 1pm
CBS -- Spero Dedes, Steve Beuerlein

The Colts need a win plus a Bengals and Patriots' loss to get a first-round bye. That is unlikely to take place, but the Colts should still have their starters out there just in case this scenario does play out. The Jaguars are simply playing for pride now, but it'll be interesting to see what they do at the quarterback position. It doesn't seem Gus Bradley believes Blaine Gabbert is a franchise quarterback. Chad Henne has played well in certain moments, but they need a quarterback who's reliable to improve this team.

New York Jets vs. Miami Dolphins
Sunday December 29, 2013 1pm
CBS -- Greg Gumbel, Dan Dierdorf

The Dolphins have been through a lot with the Jonathan Martin-Richie Incognito bullying incident that took place earlier this season. It appeared the Dolphins were able to get through that, especially after a win in Pittsburgh. The Dolphins had their fate in their own hands. All they needed to do was win in Buffalo and then beat the Jets here. They were shut out in Buffalo, so they now need to beat the Jets and have the Ravens lose to the Bengals. This is certainly possible, but the Dolphins shouldn't have been in this position. It'll be more devastating if they lost to the Jets. If they lose to the Jets, Joe Philbin may very well be fired.

Detroit Lions vs. Minnesota Vikings
Sunday December 29, 2013 1pm
FOX -- Gus Johnson, Charles Davis

The Lions season is over, but if they lose to the Vikings, there's probably no chance Jim Schwartz is brought back. The Lions were 6-3 after beating the Bears in Soldier Field. They seemed primed to win the division considering Aaron Rodgers was out for a considerable amount of time. However, losses to the Steelers, Buccaneers, Ravens and the Giants have been costly as all of those games were games they should've won. I think the Vikings will add to the misery.

Carolina Panthers vs. Atlanta Falcons
Sunday December 29, 2013 1pm
FOX -- Kevin Burkhardt, John Lynch

Many would've thought it would've been the Falcons that would be fighting in this game for positioning atop the NFC, but it's the Panthers that are in position to secure a first-round bye with a win in Atlanta. The Falcons have played decent as of late, so the Panthers may struggle in winning this game. The defense should be able to win them this game, so I expect the Panthers to be division champions.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. New Orleans Saints
Sunday December 29, 2013 4:25pm
FOX -- Thom Brennaman, Brian Billick

The Saints need the Panthers to lose to the Falcons to have a chance at the division title and a first-round bye. It's possible since the Panthers are playing in Atlanta. The Saints should be able to take care of business in the Superdome against the Buccaneers as well. I don't believe the Panthers will lose to the Falcons. Nevertheless, the Saints still must take care of their own business to have a shot. They will.

Buffalo Bills vs. New England Patriots
Sunday December 29, 2013 4:25pm
CBS -- Ian Eagle, Dan Fouts

The Patriots secure a first-round bye with a win, so they should have an easy time focusing. The Patriots, like any team, would love to avoid having to play next Sunday, so they take care of the Bills to close out the regular season. For the Bills, not much has been said about E.J. Manuel because he plays in Buffalo. It'll be interesting to see if he improves in future seasons and becomes the franchise quarterback they've been missing since Jim Kelly.

St. Louis Rams vs. Seattle Seahawks
Sunday December 29, 2013 4:25pm
FOX -- Chris Myers, Tim Ryan

The Rams played the Seahawks very tough in their Monday night game earlier this season, but the Rams couldn't win the game. In Seattle, it should be much easier. The Seahawks are also trying to lock up the division title and the top seed in the NFC. They have a lot to play for and they'll get the job done.

San Francisco 49ers vs. Arizona Cardinals
Sunday December 29, 2013 4:25pm
FOX -- Kenny Albert, Daryl Johnston, Tony Siragusa

The only way for the Cardinals to get into the playoffs is if they beat the 49ers and the Saints lose to the Buccaneers. The Saints losing to the Buccaneers is unlikely to happen, so the Cardinals may be out of luck. The 49ers are also trying to win the division and secure a first-round bye also. They can do that if they beat the Cardinals and the Seahawks lose to the Rams. It is unlikely the Seahawks lose at home to the Rams, so the 49ers are just going to have to settle for a Wild Card spot. This is intriguing though if something unexpected takes place.

Denver Broncos vs. Oakland Raiders
Sunday December 29, 2013 4:25pm
CBS -- Kevin Harlan, Solomon Wilcots

The Broncos will clinch the top seed in the AFC if they beat the Raiders, and the Raiders haven't been good all year. Terrelle Pryor is starting in this one, which has drawn the ire of his own agent. I think it's a decent idea since Pryor has sat for a long time. The Raiders have nothing to play for so it should open up a quarterback competition for Pryor and Matt McGloin in next year's training camp. I'm not sure if Dennis Allen will be running that competition.

Kansas City Chiefs vs. San Diego Chargers
Sunday December 29, 2013 4:25pm
CBS -- Marv Albert, Rich Gannon

The Chargers need a win against the Chiefs and losses from the Dolphins and Ravens to grab the final playoff spot. The Chiefs will be resting some of their starters since they've already clinched the 5 seed in the AFC. Therefore, the Chargers have a great chance of winning this game. The Chargers already beat the Chiefs at full strength in Arrowhead Stadium, so a team full of backups shouldn't be a problem. The Chargers will get it done and hope the Dolphins and Ravens would have already lost earlier in the day.

Green Bay Packers vs. Chicago Bears
Sunday December 29, 2013 4:25pm
FOX -- Joe Buck, Troy Aikman

It all came down to whether or not Aaron Rodgers would play in this one. The Packers have confirmed he'll be playing, and there's also been reports that Randall Cobb could return for this game. Simply put, I don't think the Bears have a chance with Jay Cutler with Rodgers playing. Pride has gotten in the way of the Bears. They should start Josh McCown. He gives them the best chance to win this game.

Philadelphia Eagles vs. Dallas Cowboys
Sunday December 29, 2013 8:30pm
NBC -- Al Michaels, Cris Collinsworth

Tony Romo has just underwent back surgery according to ESPN, so the Cowboys have no chance. Jon Kitna knows he won't be with the Cowboys longer than this Sunday. He's a math teacher at a high school back in the state of Washington, and he donated his game check to the school. He fully expects to head back there once the game is over, assuming the Cowboys lose and the season is over. There is no hope the Cowboys win this game.
