NFL Week 16 Preview

Several teams like the Ravens, Bears and Lions, among others, need wins in order to stay in the playoff race going into the final week of the season. Let's preview Week 16!

Miami Dolphins vs. Buffalo Bills
Sunday December 22, 2013 1pm
CBS -- Spero Dedes, Steve Beuerlein

Well E.J. Manuel can't go in this one, so the nod will go to Thad Lewis. He wasn't bad when he replaced an injured Manuel earlier this season, but the Bills weren't better either. However, the Bills have beaten the Dolphins already, so this makes this game interesting. The Dolphins have the Jets at home next week, so all they have to do is win out and they'll most likely be in the postseason. With a lot on the line, I don't see them slipping up in this one.

Miami Dolphins 23 Buffalo Bills 16

Saints' QB Drew Brees will look to lead his team to victory over
the Panthers like they did two weeks ago.
New Orleans Saints vs. Carolina Panthers
Sunday December 22, 2013 1pm
FOX -- Joe Buck, Troy Aikman

Easily the best game of Week 16, but it is merely a 1pm game because CBS has the "Game of The Week." Therefore, this game won't be on the television screens of many households across this country, but whatever game you may have, fans will definitely check the bottom scoreboard ticker to check the scores frequently. If you have "NFL Sunday Ticket," you're in tremendous shape. The Panthers control their own destiny after the Saints inexplicably lost to the Rams last week. The Panthers will win this one, and their game next week against the Falcons to clinch the NFC South. The Saints blew their chances.

New Orleans Saints 17 Carolina Panthers 27

Minnesota Vikings vs. Cincinnati Bengals
Sunday December 22, 2013 1pm
FOX -- Dick Stockton, Ronde Barber

The Bengals end their regular season with two home games, so chances are they'll win this one and next week's game against the Ravens to win the AFC North. The Vikings surprised many by easily beating the Eagles last week, and they surprised many last year in Week 16 when they beat the Texans in Houston. Anything is possible, but I don't think the Vikings can pull off the upset.

Minnesota Vikings 13 Cincinnati Bengals 30

Denver Broncos vs. Houston Texans
Sunday December 22, 2013 1pm
CBS -- Ian Eagle, Dan Fouts

This would be an inspiring win for the Texans in front of their home fans if they were able to pull it off. However, the Broncos are still playing for the AFC West crown, as the Chiefs will continue to win also. This means the Broncos will not have a letdown. They should win this easily.

Denver Broncos 38 Houston Texans 21

Tennessee Titans vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
Sunday December 22, 2013 1pm
CBS -- Andrew Catalon, Adam Archuleta

The Jaguars got their first win of the season by beating the Titans in Tennessee. It had to be humiliating for the Titans to lose to them, but the Jaguars have won three more games since then. Still, the Jaguars got a little dose of reality when they lost at home to the Bills last week. The Titans are playing for pride, and they should be very upset they lost to the Jaguars the first time. The Titans will pull this out.

Tennessee Titans 20 Jacksonville Jaguars 17

Chiefs' QB Alex Smith will look to keep his team scoring a lot
of points like they have the past two games.
Indianapolis Colts vs. Kansas City Chiefs
Sunday December 22, 2013 1pm
CBS -- Greg Gumbel, Dan Dierdorf

These two teams could very well meet in the AFC Wild Card round of the playoffs, even though the venue would be different. This matchup is in Arrowhead Stadium, but if they met in the playoffs, it would be played in Lucas Oil Stadium. Either way, the Colts really don't look like a playoff team, so the Chiefs will handle them in this game. The Colts do not want to see the Chiefs in the playoffs either. They didn't win the games they needed to win earlier.

Indianapolis Colts 17 Kansas City Chiefs 35

Dallas Cowboys vs. Washington Redskins
Sunday December 22, 2013 1pm
FOX -- Kevin Burkhardt, John Lynch

Even though the Cowboys are a game behind the Eagles in the NFC East, they control their own destiny. A win against the Redskins would set up a winner-take-all matchup against the Eagles at home next week, so the Cowboys must take care of business. The Cowboys have been burned badly in two consecutive weeks against backup quarterbacks. They'll be facing another backup quarterback in Kirk Cousins. If Cousins beats them the way Josh McCown and Matt Flynn have, we'll be hearing the tunes all offseason from Jerry Jones.

Dallas Cowboys 27 Washington Redskins 24

Cleveland Browns vs. New York Jets
Sunday December 22, 2013 1pm
CBS -- Marv Albert, Rich Gannon

This game is meaningless for both teams, as they are both eliminated from playoff contention. Still, Geno Smith must show the Jets fans that he should be the quarterback for a long time. This is his last game in front of the home fans to show this.

Cleveland Browns 13 New York Jets 23

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. St. Louis Rams
Sunday December 22, 2013 1pm
FOX -- Thom Brennaman, Brian Billick

This is another meaningless games, and the chatter about Greg Schiano has died over the course of the season. Still, we must wonder if his days as the team's head coach are numbered. Mike Glennon may be the future of the Buccaneers, but apparently he must show more. If Glennon turns out to be a good quarterback, Schiano probably won't be around to see it.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 20 St. Louis Rams 24

Cardinals' QB Carson Palmer is a game-time decision, but
the team needs him if they have any chance of an upset.
Arizona Cardinals vs. Seattle Seahawks
Sunday December 22, 2013 4:05pm
FOX -- Chris Myers, Tim Ryan

The Cardinals are still in the playoff race, but they must win their last two games and hope the 49ers lose to the Falcons. I don't see these scenarios playing out at all. It'll be incredibly difficult for the Cardinals to win in Seattle. Also, the 49ers won't lose to the lowly Falcons. It was a great effort for the Cardinals, as Bruce Arians has come in his first season and have gotten the players to believe. We shall see how long Carson Palmer is the team's quarterback.

New York Giants vs. Detroit Lions
Sunday December 22, 2013 4:05pm
FOX -- Kenny Albert, Daryl Johnston, Tony Siragusa

Even though the Lions are in third place in the NFC North, the schedule plays in their favor. The Bears might lose in Philadelphia, and if the Packers don't get Aaron Rodgers back, they could lose to the Steelers or to the Bears the following week. All the Lions have to do is win this game and next week in Minnesota and they'll most likely win the division. The Lions have still disappointed and if they don't win the division, Jim Schwartz is definitely fired.

New York Giants 16 Detroit Lions 27

Oakland Raiders vs. San Diego Chargers
Sunday December 22, 2013 4:25pm
CBS -- Bill Macatee, Steve Tasker

This game could've been played in Oakland if they would've gone through with the venue switch. For those who are unfamiliar with what I'm talking about, these two teams had to move their game back to 8:30pm PST back in October because the Oakland Athletics had a playoff game there the night before. That's irrelevant now as this game is important for the Chargers. They need help, but they could snag a Wild Card spot as well if they win out and got help. They'll take care of business here.

Oakland Raiders 17 San Diego Chargers 27

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Green Bay Packers
Sunday December 22, 2013 4:25pm
CBS -- Kevin Harlan, Solomon Wilcots

The Steelers could win this game, as I continue to doubt whether Matt Flynn can continue his solid play. The Steelers do not have anything to play for, but they still play for pride. I believe they pull off the upset.

Pittsburgh Steelers 24 Green Bay Packers 21

Ravens' QB Joe Flacco will play with an injured knee, but the team
needs him if they are to make the playoffs.
New England Patriots vs. Baltimore Ravens
Sunday December 22, 2013 4:25pm
CBS -- Jim Nantz, Phil Simms

The Patriots struggled in losing to the Dolphins, the first game they played without Rob Gronkowski since he returned earlier this season. The Ravens must win their last two to have a shot at the postseason, and I don't believe they'll accomplish that. They could win this game, but Flacco is injured and it could affect him in this game. The Patriots kick a field goal to win this game and ruin the Ravens' season.

New England Patriots 23 Baltimore Ravens 20

The Eagles will look to rebound against the Bears after last week's
debacle against the Vikings.
Chicago Bears vs. Philadelphia Eagles
Sunday December 22, 2013 8:30pm
NBC -- Al Michaels, Cris Collinsworth

If the Cowboys beat the Redskins earlier in the day, Chip Kelly could bench his important starters and keep them fresh and healthy for Week 17. Even if the Eagles beat the Bears, it wouldn't matter in the standings if the Cowboys win. If the Cowboys lose, there's no way the Eagles lose. An opportunity to clinch the NFC East at home will await them, and they will not throw that away. Either way, the Eagles win this game.

Chicago Bears 23 Philadelphia Eagles 34

Atlanta Falcons vs. San Francisco 49ers
Monday December 23, 2013 8:40pm
ESPN -- Mike Tirico, Jon Gruden

This is the last regular season game in Candlestick Park, and since the Seahawks are two games ahead in the NFC West standings, it definitely appears as if this is the last game ever at Candlestick Park. The 49ers will go out with a bang, as the Falcons have been pretty helpless all season.

Atlanta Falcons 10 San Francisco 49ers 34
