NFL Week 9 Recap

Rex Ryan gets the better of his twin brother, and the Patriots ring up 55 points and over 600 yards in the win over the Steelers. Let's recap Week 9!

Dolphins' Cameron Wake sacks Bengals' Andy Dalton in the end
zone for the game-winning safety.
Cincinnati Bengals 20 Miami Dolphins 22 OT

What a weird finish to this one. I still think the ball was at the one-yard line when Andy Dalton was initially hit by Cameron Wake. I'm in the minority in this one, and it doesn't matter now because it's over. It's a much needed win for the Dolphins. It's also a game you would like to see Dalton and the Bengals win for their confidence if they're going to be contenders.

Kansas City Chiefs 23 Buffalo Bills 13

The Chiefs are 9-0, but they failed to score an offensive touchdown in this game. Their two touchdowns came from an interception return and a fumble return. Alex Smith completed 19 passes but it only went for 124 yards. They'll have a bye, but face the Broncos in two of their next three games. They will need their offense to wake up a little.

Atlanta Falcons 10 Carolina Panthers 34

Cam Newton was picked off twice. No worries because Matt Ryan was picked off three times, and this game was thoroughly dominated by the Panthers for the majority of the game. How did the Falcons fall this far after hosting the NFC Championship Game at 13-3 last year?

Cowboys' Tony Romo leads a game-winning touchdown drive
for the close win.
Minnesota Vikings 23 Dallas Cowboys 27

It was a little stunning to see the Vikings actually hanging with the Cowboys and up late in the fourth quarter. Even though many people aren't a big fan of Christian Ponder, there's no denying that he's the best quarterback they have. Bringing in Josh Freeman is good for insurance purposes, but he should not see the field again this year if Ponder is healthy. For the Cowboys, it's a good thing they won. The Eagles and Redskins won also.

Jets' Chris Ivory ran over his former team in helping the Jets
to victory.
New Orleans Saints 20 New York Jets 26

It is so hard to figure out the Jets, but they've just added another impressive victory to their resume. Statistically, Geno Smith probably had the most quiet game of the season, but the defense was able to get Drew Brees all day. Two sacks and two interceptions helped the Jets get back over .500.

Tennessee Titans 28 St. Louis Rams 21

Simply put, this game seems to have been devoid of any excitement. Jeff Fisher was coaching against his old team, so that was a decent storyline. Jake Locker also started the season off very impressive, but with two interceptions and no touchdowns against the Rams, he has fallen a little. The Titans need him to continue making progress if they see him as their franchise quarterback.

Redskins' Darrell Young celebrates after scoring game-winning
touchdown.
San Diego Chargers 24 Washington Redskins 30 OT

One of the weirdest things I've ever seen in a football game happened in this one, when Keenan Allen was flagged for offensive pass interference. Replays showed he never touched the cornerback, so it made for confusion all over. There were a couple other officiating errors in this one. The Chargers probably won't use it as an excuse for the loss, but it probably had something to do with their loss.

Eagles' Nick Foles threw for an NFL record tying seven touchdown
passes in the win.
Philadelphia Eagles 49 Oakland Raiders 20

Boy did that escalate quickly! The Eagles couldn't score at all the past two games. They failed to score a touchdown against the Cowboys and the Giants at home, as they continued their home struggles. I guess they do need to be away from home. After all, the 2007 Giants were probably helped out by having to play all of their playoff games on the road en route to their championship. They were 7-1 on the road that year.

Buccaneers' Mike Glennon had the Seahawks on the ropes before
they finally succumbed.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers 24 Seattle Seahawks 27 OT

I saw 21-0, and thought it was a mistake on the CBS ticker at the bottom of the screen. Come to find out, the Buccaneers were really putting a hurt on the Seahawks. However, many people predicted a comeback. After all, the Seahawks couldn't lose at home and give the Buccaneers their first win of the season right?

Baltimore Ravens 18 Cleveland Browns 24

That contract Joe Flacco received for winning the Super Bowl is every bit as disastrous as I thought it would be. The Ravens had to let a lot of players go because they couldn't afford them in the salary cap. The result has been an inept offense. The defense hasn't played poorly throughout the year, so that's a bit of a surprise. Still, what can the Ravens do to acquire better players around Flacco in future seasons?

Pittsburgh Steelers 31 New England Patriots 55

Both quarterbacks had four touchdowns and at least 400 yards passing. However, the Patriots scored 28 points in the fourth quarter to thoroughly put this game away. It was only 27-24 at the end of the third quarter. Mike Tomlin isn't happy with the defense, obviously, but he'll probably try to fire them up with a high school pep talk that won't work. How can the Steelers fix this defense?

Grim scene at halftime as Texans' head coach Gary Kubiak was wheeled
off on a stretcher after a stroke.
Indianapolis Colts 27 Houston Texans 24

I'm not sure how the Texans players were feeling when they had to play the second half knowing what happened to Gary Kubiak. However, the Texans looked defeated in the second half in allowing the Colts to come back and win. Devastating loss for the Texans as they now fall to 2-6. Playoff chances are probably dashed now. For Kubiak, get well soon.

Packers' Aaron Rodgers injures his left shoulder on this sack, which
could keep him out for a while.
Chicago Bears 27 Green Bay Packers 20

Everyone in the state of Wisconsin is holding their breaths as they find out more information on Aaron Rodgers' injury. Deadspin reported Rodgers has a broken collarbone. If that is the case, the Packers' season is finished.
