Week 14 Preview

Denver Broncos vs. Oakland Raiders
NFL Network -- Brad Nessler, Mike Mayock
Thursday December 6, 2012 8:20pm

Raiders' head coach Dennis Allen will coach this game, despite his father passing away earlier in the week. This could be an emotional game for the Raiders if they decide to give it all they got against the Broncos. The Broncos are due for a slip-up. Their second half schedule is so easy, it has to happen at some point. They almost slipped up against the Chiefs. The Chiefs just couldn't generate enough offense. The Raiders have QB Carson Palmer, who has been better than I expected this season. At times, that offense can put up a decent amount of points. They'll need it tonight.

St. Louis Rams vs. Buffalo Bills
FOX -- Ron Pitts, Mike Martz
Sunday December 9, 2012 1pm

The Rams are coming off another impressive outing against the 49ers. However, the first time they played the 49ers, which ended in a tie, they followed that up with an embarrassing home performance against the Jets. This game is on the road so I don't expect the Rams to win this game. Why not though? They went to Candlestick Park and almost beat the 49ers. They should take that intensity and attitude to every game.

Atlanta Falcons vs. Carolina Panthers
FOX -- Gus Johnson, Charles Davis
Sunday December 9, 2012 1pm

The first time these two teams played in the Georgia Dome, the Panthers should've came away with a win. The Panthers had the lead with just about a minute left in the fourth quarter and they had the Falcons backed up to their own one-yard line. However, Falcons' QB Matt Ryan was able to launch a pass to WR Roddy White, who magically got behind the safety. The Falcons got good field position after that catch and they went on to win shortly later. Because these teams are division rivals, I expect it to be close. You know how the Falcons fare in close games.

Dallas Cowboys vs. Cincinnati Bengals
FOX -- Thom Brennaman, Brian Billick
Sunday December 9, 2012 1pm

The Bengals are on a roll right now, so this game is trouble for the Cowboys. They are now tied with the Redskins for second place in the NFC East, and the Redskins are riding high. The Cowboys can slip to third after this game, at which point it'll be difficult to leap-frog the Redskins and Giants for the division lead. The Bengals have a tight race of their own. They are tied with the Steelers at 7-5 for the final AFC Wild Card spot. Another win here will be needed.

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Cleveland Browns
CBS -- Bill Macatee, Steve Tasker
Sunday December 9, 2012 1pm

This game is eerily tragic, with circumstances that are extremely unpredictable. For the Chiefs, the entire country knows the story of LB Jovan Belcher, who killed himself after killing his girlfriend. The Chiefs took the field a day after the tragedy, to the surprise of some, including myself. For the Browns, a member of their grounds crew committed suicide the same day Belcher did. He did it at the practice facility as well. Belcher committed suicide at the team's facility as well. Tragic circumstances surrounding this game but it has to be played.

Tennessee Titans vs. Indianapolis Colts
CBS -- Ian Eagle, Dan Fouts
Sunday December 9, 2012 1pm

The first time these two teams met, the Colts won in overtime at LP Field, so the Titans want revenge. The Colts are far ahead of that right now. They are playing for the playoffs right now, while the Titans' season is pretty much done at this point. This is a game the Colts need to win. With the Steelers and Bengals just a game behind, one of those three teams will be left out of the mix. The Colts can't allow for it to be them.

New York Jets vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
CBS -- Kevin Harlan, Solomon Wilcots
Sunday December 9, 2012 1pm

Jets' head coach Rex Ryan has made the decision to go back to QB Mark Sanchez, but Jets' fans shouldn't be too upset. Ryan has now shown that he will pull Sanchez once he struggles. I hope this serves as a wake-up call for Sanchez. If Sanchez struggles at any other point this season, he will be pulled again. There will definitely be a quarterback competition in the offseason.

Chicago Bears vs. Minnesota Vikings
FOX -- Kenny Albert, Daryl Johnston, Tony Siragusa
Sunday December 9, 2012 1pm

The last time these two teams played, everyone made a big deal out of how great Bears' QB Jay Cutler is and how the Bears need him in order to win. The Bears really need their defense to create turnovers in order to win. That shouldn't be hard in this game because Vikings' QB Christian Ponder has been turnover prone lately and making very bad decisions. After losing the NFC North division lead, every game is critical now for the Bears if they want to lock up a playoff spot.

San Diego Chargers vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
CBS -- Jim Nantz, Phil Simms
Sunday December 9, 2012 1pm

This game was supposed to pit the second and third quarterbacks taken in the 2004 NFL Draft. However, it is not known if Steelers' QB Ben Roethlisberger will play in this game. He is still recovering from the ribs and shoulder injury, but QB Charlie Batch filled in well for Roethlisberger against the AFC North leading Ravens last week. They don't need a huge performance from Batch. They just need for him to not turn the ball over. The Chargers have a lost season, after seeing QB Philip Rivers attempt to carry the team once again, resulting in bad interceptions. Chargers' head coach Norv Turner is most likely gone after this season.

Philadelphia Eagles vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
FOX -- Dick Stockton, John Lynch
Sunday December 9, 2012 1pm

This is a nice game for the Buccaneers to get back on track. The Buccaneers were rolling until they had to play the Falcons and Broncos. After two consecutive losses, this is the perfect game for the Buccaneers to get back on track. For the Eagles, we will now see what QB Nick Foles can do being given the starting position for the rest of the season. The Eagles have a decision to make once the season is over. They need to decide whether they want to opt out of QB Michael Vick's deal. I think they do and roll with Foles for the near future.

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III.
Baltimore Ravens vs. Washington Redskins
CBS -- Marv Albert, Rich Gannon
Sunday December 9, 2012 1pm

The Redskins have won three straight, with all of them coming against NFC East opponents. This sets up a very good matchup between the AFC North leading Ravens. After this game, the Redskins season is pretty manageable. If the Redskins can win this game, they can win out and challenge the Giants for the NFC East division. The Ravens are coming off of a loss, so they'll be angry. However, their defense isn't what it used to be and they are going up against Redskins' QB Robert Griffin III.

Miami Dolphins vs. San Francisco 49ers
CBS -- Greg Gumbel, Dan Dierdorf
Sunday December 9, 2012 4:05pm

A loss usually makes 49ers' head coach Jim Harbaugh angry, so this is the wrong time for the Dolphins to be coming into Candlestick Park. There really isn't much hope for the Dolphins in this game. The 49ers' defense will make life miserable for QB Ryan Tannehill, and the 49ers will run the ball down their throats. Let's see how QB Colin Kaepernick does in this game. If he turns the ball over like he did against the Rams, Harbaugh should give the job back to QB Alex Smith.

Arizona Cardinals vs. Seattle Seahawks
FOX -- Chris Myers, Tim Ryan
Sunday December 9, 2012 4:25pm

The Seahawks have had a good season so far, but mysteriously, they haven't won a game in the division yet. They're about to change that. Three of their final four games are at home, and they're all against division opponents. This is a game they should definitely win. The Cardinals just can't find a quarterback who can do anything to help them. They should really look to draft a quarterback. They need to head in a new direction.

New York Giants QB Eli Manning.
New Orleans Saints vs. New York Giants
FOX -- Joe Buck, Troy Aikman
Sunday December 9, 2012 4:25pm

This would've been an important game for the Saints if they beat the Falcons last week. However, the Saints' playoff chances are pretty much blown at this point. That doesn't mean they will not work hard in this game. They may not be better than the Giants this year, but they have something positive to look forward to. They have beaten the Giants the past three times with blowouts, scoring at least 30 in each and at least 40 the last two times. The Giants have everything to play for, and they're at home. They should win this game.

New Orleans Saints 20 New York Giants 34

Detroit Lions vs. Green Bay Packers
NBC -- Al Michaels, Cris Collinsworth
Sunday December 9, 2012 8:20pm

The Lions' playoff hopes were destroyed when they lost their last three home games. It wasn't an easy task to win one of them, as all three games were against teams that are in the playoff picture. It was even more heartbreaking how they lost all three. The Lions had an opportunity to win all three, but lost in the final minutes to the Packers, lost in overtime against the Texans, and lost to the Colts when they had a 12-point fourth quarter lead. The Lions have to play spoiler now, and this is the game to do it. The Packers control their destiny. Starting with this game, three of their final four are against division opponents. They should win this division.

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady.
Houston Texans vs. New England Patriots
ESPN -- Mike Tirico, Jon Gruden
Monday December 10, 2012 8:30pm

Easily the best game of this weekend, I think many fans are dying to see the Patriots play real competition. Once again, the Patriots have benefited from a relatively easy schedule. This Texans team defensively can disrupt a lot of what the Patriots are trying to do offensively. Also, the Patriots' defense has no answer for the Texans' play action offense. Patriots' QB Tom Brady will need to put up points if they want to win. That's not a problem.
