Week 9 Preview

Kansas City Chiefs vs. San Diego Chargers

This is the perfect game for the Chargers to stop their slide. After starting 3-1, the Chargers have lost three straight, including two in which they lost while leading by double-digits. The Chiefs have been awful in every sense of the word. Their only win came against the New Orleans Saints and they were down 24-6 at one point in that game. Unfortunately, Romeo Crennel won't be around much longer.

Denver Broncos vs. Cincinnati Bengals

This game begins what looks to be a pretty easy stretch of football for the Broncos. The Broncos were able to escape a difficult first half of the season at 4-3. For the Bengals, a playoff team last season, this would be a win that can boost their team confidence. I'm not sure this game will quite work in the Bengals' favor.

Baltimore Ravens vs. Cleveland Browns

This game is very ripe for an upset. The first time these two teams played back in September, the Browns were very competitive and took it down to the wire until Browns QB Brandon Weeden threw the ball out of the end zone on the final play. The Browns have been pretty competitive even though their record doesn't show it. The Ravens have been overrated.

Arizona Cardinals vs. Green Bay Packers

So the Cardinals have completed the mini-collapse by following four straight wins with four straight losses. Now, they have to play the Packers in Lambeau Field. The Cardinals can definitely use a soft spot in their schedule. Playing the 49ers and Packers in back-to-back weeks is certainly not a soft spot.

Bills DE Mario Williams returns to Reliant Stadium.
Buffalo Bills vs. Houston Texans

Bills DE Mario Williams makes his first appearance in Reliant Stadium as an opposing player. That's about all the hype this game should be given. When the Bills have lost this season, they have lost pretty bad. The Texans are very capable of handing down that kind of beating to the Bills.

Miami Dolphins vs. Indianapolis Colts

Way back in 1998, QB Peyton Manning started his career with the Colts at home in the RCA Dome against QB Dan Marino and the Dolphins. The Colts lost. Colts QB Andrew Luck is the new sheriff in town and the Dolphins do not have a Marino on their team. They do have QB Ryan Tannehill, another rookie quarterback. We'll have to see if he'll play. I get the sense QB Matt Moore actually gives the Dolphins a better chance to win.

Lions WR Mike Thomas, seen here in a Jaguars uniform,
will face his former team right away.
Detroit Lions vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

WR Mike Thomas was traded by the Jaguars to the Lions this week. In a perfect world, he can sit in Jacksonville and wait for the Lions to meet him there. It's not all that simple. It is pretty odd that the Jaguars would trade a player to a team they have to play the same week. The Lions for sure are getting a lot of information out of him. I don't think they need it though.

Chicago Bears vs. Tennessee Titans

This is another upset game for me. While the Bears defense have been impressive creating a bunch of turnovers, they are not necessarily a shut-down defense. The Titans lost a heartbreaking overtime game to the Colts last week, so they'll be looking to bounce back. Bears QB Jay Cutler isn't a quarterback who's really impressive either. Titans will come with the fire necessary for the win.

Carolina Panthers vs. Washington Redskins

This game is certainly hyped because of Panthers QB Cam Newton and Redskins QB Robert Griffin III. They are not similar quarterbacks at all. However, this could be a game where Newton can have some success throwing. Newton is very indecisive and inaccurate but the Redskins pass defense has not been too good at all. On the other side, Griffin III should feast on the Panthers defense. They have been bad for the most part as well.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Oakland Raiders

This is a rematch of Super Bowl XXXVII. These teams are far removed from those days. The Buccaneers defense is nothing like they were in that 2002 season. The Raiders offense is nothing like they were in that season either. However, the Buccaneers have been playing good football as of late. Even if it's against the Raiders, a road win across the country can do a lot for the team's confidence.

Minnesota Vikings vs. Seattle Seahawks

The Vikings are heading down the same path the Cardinals are headed. The Seahawks defense will feast on Vikings QB Christian Ponder. Just look at what they've done to Packers QB Aaron Rodgers and Patriots QB Tom Brady. Good luck Ponder!

Giants QB Eli Manning and Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger
face each other for the third time in their careers.
Pittsburgh Steelers vs. New York Giants

Two quarterbacks from the 2004 NFL Draft class and both quarterbacks already own two Super Bowl rings each. That is pretty successful for the careers of Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger and Giants QB Eli Manning. The success of the two quarterbacks in the past may not matter much in this game. The Giants will still go up against a better-than-average Steelers' defense. The Steelers have issues, especially on the road, where they've only won one game. Not good going against the defending champions.

Dallas Cowboys vs. Atlanta Falcons

In the 2009 season, the Cowboys had a game in the Louisiana Superdome against the New Orleans Saints. The Saints entered that game at 13-0, chasing an undefeated regular season. The Cowboys came away winners of that game, ending the Saints undefeated season. The Cowboys have a chance to do the same in the Georgia Dome on the Sunday night stage. They are more than capable of getting the victory. It is all up to Cowboys QB Tony Romo.

Philadelphia Eagles vs. New Orleans Saints

Both teams are coming off of bad losses. With the amount of scrutiny following Eagles QB Michael Vick, I don't think there's another team under more pressure in Week 9 than the Eagles. It was a smart decision for Andy Reid to stick with Vick as his starter. Throwing a rookie into the Superdome on a Monday night is a terrible idea. That doesn't mean Vick's job is safe. He needs to perform a lot better. If the Eagles thought they faced a daunting task against QB Matt Ryan, they'll have to contain a better quarterback in Saints QB Drew Brees.
